I am a Change Agent – who BOLDLY and UNAPOLOGETICALLY Walks in My Purpose!
When I think about my life, it has always been driven by dreams – bold and new dreams!
At the age of eight years old, I remember sitting in my living room watching “Eyes on the Prize” and becoming electrified by Thurgood Marshall and other civil rights leaders who dared to challenge the system of Jim Crow and re-imagine a society that embraced “equal justice under the law” even though there was little to no evidence that America would embrace the concept.
As I reflect on that childhood moment, I think I was more fascinated with the audacity they had to dream. I’ve always been drawn to courageous and bold ideas. I am fueled by and live for the possibilities, which inspired me to become a public defender and social engineer focused on building systems of equity for people of color.
My life’s purpose is to inspire others to fully embrace all of who they are and to encourage people to follow their dreams! There is no one pathway to your full purpose. We are all complex and unique individuals who contribute to the world in various ways. Many of us – especially black women- have never given ourselves permission to be free and to pursue all of our dreams!
I am grateful to be the Founder and Creator of Women of Purpose; a Founding Family of the Freedom Community School in SE DC; and a Co-Founder of the Black Public Defender Association. I currently serve as the President and CEO at NLADA. I am even more blessed to be able to pursue my passions with the support of my husband and while raising two beautiful and brilliant daughters.
The goal behind creating this new online space is to share my journey and hopefully liberate others to do the same. I want to encourage women of color to embrace their full selves and to design a life they love!
It is important for black women specifically to define and share our journey with the world. Our strength, power, and brilliance are what the world is waiting for.
The world is waiting!
